Historical structures
The following chapters describe the basic historical structures and their material and technological parameters.
Care of historical monuments
In the Czech Republic the care of historical buildings is defined by the State monument care Act 1985 (as amended). The Czech Republic is also committed to respect the Convention for the Protection of the Architectural Heritage of Europe issued by the Council of Europe in 1985. These documents are the cornerstone of protection of architectural monuments in the Czech Republic.
On the basis of the Law of the State monument care the National Heritage Institute has been established. It is an institution which carries out a complex heritage protection service (records of monuments, restoration methodology, expert supervision of the care of monuments, analyses of the building status, etc.) and thus fulfills the objectives of the Act.
Based on these documents, it is possible to divide existing buildings into 4 categories that define their cultural and historical protection:
- Building without a cultural-historical legal protection
- Building culturally valuable, legally unprotected, building in the protected zone;
- Building on the conservation area;
- Immovable cultural monument.
The boundaries between these categories are very vague and the division is rather illustrative.
